Dogstock

Dogstock is our annual two-day training seminar and protection tournament. Started in 2005, Dogstock quickly became a popular and much-anticipated event, drawing its own crowd of 'regulars' from all over California, Nevada, Oregon, and beyond. This event brings together a wide variety of top helpers from a number of different regions, and allows handlers from any region to work with the helper of their choice. Training takes place throughout the day, and the protection tournament begins in the late evening under the lights. The protection tournament also includes the "Fastest Long Bite" competition, where each individual dog is clocked with a radar gun to determine top speed as they charge down the field. Spectators and participants alike can expect a fun-filled weekend of top training, good food, good company, great raffle prizes, and some late night festivities after the protection tournament.

Dogstock 2011

This was one of our most enjoyable events to date. Despite having a sudden date change due to inclement weather only a few days before the event, many handlers and their dogs were still able to make the new date at the end of June. Fortunately, our really hot weather held off, and the weekend overall had plenty of sunshine with some decent temperatures within the high 80s.  Helpers for this year's event included Gary Park, Tim Cutter, Mario Fernandez, Bryan Dewe, Dave Delesseigues, and John Riboni.

While the training and camaraderie were great, what most attendees were talking about this year was the fabulous food! PCSC Secretary Ginna Amoranto created a delicious lunch featuring melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork sandwiches, and professional chef Stephen Romeo put on an amazing dinner spread with Root-Beer-Marinated southwestern BBQ chicken, Spinach Summer Salad, homemade mac and cheese, grilled vegetables, fresh coleslaw with an Asian twist, and sumptuous desserts of mini cannolis and 'death by chocolate' brownies.

Despite being lulled into a 'food coma' by that fabulous dinner, everyone was still able to rouse themselves for the much-anticipated raffle, followed by an exciting Dumbbell Toss competition. The ladies went first this year, and last year's champion Wendy Schmitt stepped up to defend her title. Once again, fellow club member Carissa Kuehn gave her some difficult tosses to beat, but in the end Schmitt was able to defend her title, remaining undefeated for the second year in a row.

After our Dumbbell Toss competition, preparations for the evening Protection Tournament began. John Riboni and Mario Fernandez worked the dogs for the Protection Tournament. Our three Schuzthund 1 entries went first, with Deleta Jones and Lady taking home the Schutzhund 1 prize with a high score of 92 points. An intense Schutzhund 3 competition followed, and Robert Gomez with Igor emerged victorious with a high score of 97 points. Igor also had the fastest long bite with a speed of 34 mph!

Festivities continued on into the night, with some brave folks camping out at the field overnight under the stars. The early morning sun brought with it the promise of great coffee and a good breakfast, and another day of training soon followed. When the last dog had been worked, another successful Dogstock drew to a close, setting a new precedent for fantastic food, fun, and prizes. We are looking forward to another great event in 2012. Hope to see you there!
